    Hello there,
I thought some fields in the checkout page were mandatory, but my store seems to have everything optional except “First Name”, “Last Name” and “e-mail”.
Everything else is marked as “(optional)”.

I tried to deactivate all the plugins and run the site on a default wordpress theme but nothing changes.

I also tried “Checkout Field Editor” (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/woo-checkout-field-editor-pro/) to change them, but no way. Still marked as “(optional)”.

This store is running on a custom child theme of “Storefront” theme.

    Any suggestion?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi there,

I think that it is just your billing details/fields that are no longer set to required. I do know that our Paypal Checkout extension can disable this by design, so if you are using said extension head into WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Then Paypal Checkout. In those settings, you can then enable these two options to make all billing fields and the phone field required again.

Here’s a screenshot of what those options are: https://cld.wthms.co/ynX7Rn

    I hope that helps!

    Howdy!

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to go ahead and mark this thread as resolved. If you have any other questions please start a new thread.

    Cheers!

    Good afternoon!
I am experiencing the same issue, but I do have the boxes checked for “Require Billing Address” & “Require Phone Number”. I called PayPal, but they told me that the problem is on the Woo end of things. I have included screenshots of both the settings and the checkout windows. I want these things to be required for tax purposes.

If you can shed any light on this, I would appreciate it!

I am having the same issue.

I am using WooCommerce Stripe Gateway as the primary payment on my site.

I installed the WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway as an alternative payment option, now all the billing details fields (first name, last name, country, address, town, state, zip) on the checkout page are optional.

I enabled the “Require billing address” option in WooCommerce Paypal Checkout Gateway. I got an message that said “feature is disabled in your paypal account”. I called PayPal to enable to feature. Paypal said “they only return shipping address”.

It appears the WooCommerce Stripe Gateway plugin and WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway do not work well together.

If a buyer is going to checkout on my site with Stripe. I want the billing details to be required. It looks BAD and “off” when billing are optional on a checkout page. This will negative impact checkout conversions.

If a buyer decides to use Paypal, they are redirected to Paypal for payment, and Paypal does not send billing details to my website – which is fine.

Can WooCommerce fix this to allow these two plugins to work together?

This Paypal plugin sets the fields to optional, regardless of what payment method is actually selected. There is a github issue you can follow here: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce-gateway-paypal-express-checkout/issues/426

Having the same issue, following @norabrown212, it seems like the issue is related to Paypal, so in Paypal tick “Reguire Billing Address”

I was able to resolve this issue on my checkout page. I simply deactivated the PayPal woocommerce plug-in. Deleted the plugin. Then I installed, activated and configured the plugin again. That seemed to resolve this issue.

Almost…. I deleted the Paypal plugin and all was good and as soon as I installed it again…. everything is optional again… arghhhh…..
