When I try to import an excel sheet using TablePress, it gives me an error. How come this is happening? How do I fix this issue?

Why am I get an error using TablePress? 403 Forbidden

    Hi,

thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.

This error is returned by your webserver software. It apparently does not like something in the HTTP request (presumably because it follows very/too tight rules for security checks).
You could try again with saving the Excel file to a CSV file and trying to import that, as a first step. If the error still shows, you’ll have to contact your webhost company and ask them to relax those settings (probably in e.g. the Apache mod_security module).

Thank you for the response. What do I have to exactly ask them?

    Hi,

I suggest to ask them to check their log files to see if they can find what in their server configuration is causing those 403 errors on certain requests.

That’s what they did, they found no issue. Should I make a quick video showing you my issue?

    Hi,

I understand the issue, but it’s not caused by TablePress.
Something on your site is blocking the request. It could for example be a security plugin (like WordFence) but more likely it’s a server configuration thing.

Ok, thank you for the quick response, The host isn’t finding any issue. In the meantime here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myNyCydyQ14

    Hi,

thanks for the video. As you already turned off all other plugins, please also switch to a WordPress default theme like TwentySixteen, to also rule out any interference from that.
Please also try other file formats like a CSV file.

If that also does not help, you will have to bug your webhost again (remember, you are paying them!). This is an error that the webserver software causes. I assume that they are using a security program like mod_security on the server that raises this error. They should be able to have more information about this error in the server error log file.

    Tobias

Ok I will keep bugging them until they see the issue.

So they said that error is happening because Table Press is taking too much memory so they suggested I purchase a VPN server.

    Hi,

yes, that will be the best. Please let me know if they find something.

Hello what do you want them to do with the mod_security?

    Hi,

they will have to check which exact rule in mod_security is causing this. Then, they should relax that rule so that the import of files is allowed to the server.
To confirm that this is indeed the cause for this, you could also ask them to temporarily turn mod_security off and then try again.

    Regards,
    Tobias
