• I have recently inherited a website from someone else. There are a lot of images in the Media Library that I am deleting because they are not needed. When I get down towards the bottom of the Media Library, I see there are a lot of generic icons that look like pages. When I click on them they say attachment. What are these and why are they in my Media Library? Can I delete them? I have screenshots of this but I don’t see where I can insert or attach a screenshot to this post.

Thanks in advance for any help with this problem

Thank you for your helpful advice. I thought thumbnails were small images less than 100×100, and I don’t really have any of those. Could you tell me what a thumbnail regenerator actually does?

Thank you for all your help!

The Thumbnail Regenerator regenerates the thumbnails of the images in your media library which are used throughout WordPress, including in the media library display (where a small representation of the images should be appearing instead of those generic icons).

    Hi,
I appreciate all your help with this problem. I just wanted to let you know that I installed the plug-in, but I am still seeing rows and rows of generic icons. Do you have any more ideas?
    Thanks again

I am having a similar problem. It only happens with larger images. I have a classifieds site and users will upload large photos sometimes and they will upload, show as an icon in the library and not actually attach to their posts. I am able to view the photos in their own url but they won’t show up in their posts. I notice the regenerate thumbnails seems to be working for existing photos. Does it also perform this automatically on future uploads or is this only a manual process? Thanks!
