Why are my blog posts not appearing when using static front page

I was able to create a “Blog” page where it shows all of my posts on the right side. But along the ‘middle’ main area, it shows all of my posts consecutively. Is this normal? Is there a way to change this to only show 1 particular post at a time instead of all blog posts?
