Why did my Bounce Rate increase from 80%?

  • My wife’s blog has always had a really low bounce rate. Usually below 1%. She runs the Twenty Eleven theme with some minor changes. Very few plugins.

    After I updated her site to WordPress 3.8 at the end of 2013, her bounce rate sky rocketed to over 80% and has been there ever since.

    Does anyone know if there is something in WordPress 3.8 that made her blog do that? Other than the update, we have done nothing differently to her site.

  • What tool are you using to measure bounce rate? And, no, WP3.8 does not affect the visitor flow at your site. Are there any other anayltics you can see such as many more visitors etc?

    I use google analytics. And no, the rest of the analytics seem to be pretty much in line with what she normally does, besides a decrease in pages per visit. At the same time her bounce rate spiked, her pages per visit tanked from over 5 per visit to just over 1.

    I can’t seem to figure it out, and the reason I think it has something to do with 3.8 is because it literally happened on the day I updated, and has been like that ever since.

    That said, the ads from passionfruitads dot com might draw folks away.
