Why do I need an .htaccess file anyway?

    Hi,

    After nearly 2 years working on my site, I have forgotten why I needed an htaccess file in the first place. But thats not the point, the point is that one of the rules is RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

    That is making a mess of my permalinks, but not visibly. Only when I look at things like Google Anaylitcs etc does this rule show.

    Can I safely delete it?
