A few months ago, I asked whether I need a second template for a blog post with a Slideshow block instead of a Featured Image block. Apparently it is not possible without a second, customized template.

Therefore, I have installed the Jetpack plugin to have a Slideshow block. After that, I created a second template called Single Posts with Slideshow. I copied the HTML code of the Single Posts template and pasted it into my Single Posts with Slideshow template. In the Single Posts with Slideshow template, I have deleted the Featured Image block and added a Slideshow block instead.

Then it was time for a new blog post with a slideshow. I created a new blog post and selected Single Posts with Slideshow as the template. To my surprise, there was still an option to select a Featured image in the right-hand settings menu. The Slideshow block did not appear as content, nor as an option in the right-hand settings menu.

How is it possible to add images to the Slideshow block in a blog post using my Single Posts with Slideshow template?

So far, I have only used WordPress locally. I set up a new and web accessible WordPress website at WordPress.com.

A blog post that uses my Single Posts with Slideshow template described above can be found here.

The Featured Image block has been replaced by a Slideshow block.

In the blog post, which uses the Single Posts with Slideshow template, the option to set a featured image is still available even though there is no Featured Image block. However, there is no option for the Slideshow block used instead.

    Hi there, @atalanttore,

I don’t seem to have seen any email from you contacting us privately, as my colleague suggested.

If you haven’t done so, can you please share your site URL so we can have a look? The screenshots you shared could be useful for us, but we still need to check your site in details. As mentioned earlier, If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via contact form (that’s why I checked our inbox, in case you have done it already). If you choose to reach out directly, please include a link to this thread.

    Thanks!

    Hi @erania-pinnera,

The word “here” in my post is linked to my sample page. The URL of the link is as follows.

    Hey @atalanttore,

Your site is a WordPress.com site, while this is the forum for www.ads-software.com sites with the Jetpack plugin installed.

I recommend posting your question on the WordPress.com forum if you haven’t done yet: https://wordpress.com/forums/

Jetpack’s functionalities works slighlty differently in WordPress.com sites, so our colleagues are more knowledgable and equipped to assist you.

    Hi @erania-pinnera,

As already mentioned, I have only been using WordPress locally so far. This is where I encountered this issue. I only used WordPress.com to create a sample page that is accessible on the internet.

The issue exists both with my local WordPress installation and with my sample page on WordPress.com.

    Hi there, @atalanttore,

Apologies, I missed the mention of your site being in locale. We have tested that what you reported, and we could reproduce it.

We can confirm that the block doesn’t work well in the site editor right now. There are a few open GitHub reports about it. I’m afraid we don’t have an ETA for developing a fix at the moment.?

?If you haven’t already done so, I recommend signing up to our blog and to the GitHub issues mentioned above, keep up with the new plugin release, bug fixes, and any other relevant news that can interest you.

    Hope that answers your question!

    Hi @erania-pinnera,

It’s great that you were able to reproduce the issue. In this specific case, the issue is the use of the Slideshow block in a template for a blog post.

If I need a Slideshow block in a template, the Jetpack plugin in its current state is not a viable solution for me. Unfortunately, but that’s the way it is.

    Hey @atalanttore,

It appears you said it right, I’m afraid. I have also checked all the GitHub features I listed above, and I don’t seem to recognise your specific issue and use case in any of them.

Perhaps you want to create a new GitHub report describing what you want to achieve and how it doesn’t work on post templates. As you can see from the other GitHub reports, we don’t have an ETA for fixing the issues. However, I recommend reporting it – if that’s not reported properly, it will never be addressed ??

    Hope that helps!

    Hi @erania-pinnera,

On your advice, I created a new GitHub report about this issue.

    Hi @atalanttore,

Thank you for creating the GitHub issue for the problem with using the Slideshow block in a template. This will allow the developers to investigate and work on a resolution. Keep an eye on the GitHub issue you created for any updates or requests for additional information from the Jetpack development team.

I’ll mark this thread as resolved for now. Don’t hesitate to open a new one if you need help with anything else.
