• I am trying to understand this error:

“Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response”

I have tried several procedures but the only thing that works is installing and activating Classic Widget. For me this is not optimal.

So can someone explain to me why Classic Widges fixes the JSON-error?

  • I had the same error as you, I solved it by turning off modsecurity

What is modsecurity? Is it a WordPress plugin og something you configure elsewhere?

Thanks @aqit79 ! Turning off modsecurity stopped the problem for me too. This started yesterday for me. I turned modsecurity back on and the problem came back (cpanel warns me not to leave modsecurity off except for testing). I can use the classic editor for now.

Ok, I have now deactivated modsecurity, and now the error is gone, but this should only be a temporary solution. The problem is not solved.

Wow, this issue has actually been fixed. No more JSON-errors when saving a post! But it would be nice to get more background information about this should this happen in the future. Do not mark this as resolved. Why did this happen, please!

Can you tell me how the issue has been fixed? I have the same problem and use classic editor plug in to cope with it.

egzaltowana: Try to drop classic editor and see if it works without now. I dont know how or why this works now. Noone seems to know.

Unfortunately without classic editor I am not able to edit anything ?? I hope they will fix it in the next update!

if you are experiencing a bug with WordPress which is reproduced with clean installation and default theme, please fill a trac ticket

Yui: This time the “problem” is that the bug is being fixed, so it cannot be reproduced. I would like to know what caused the JSON-error, so that I can be prepaired next time is happens. Or maybe I should just wait for the bug to be solved “by itselv”?

By the way, why was my last comment deleted?
