why doesn't "sharing" show in my settings tab

I am a brand new user attempting to follow along with the tutorial at Lynda.com’s WordPress essential training.
In the tutorial, under settings, there is a sharing tab that allows one to add Facebook, etc. to a page/post.
I don’t have the sharing tab.
please let me know how to proceed.
