I am going to be moving my site soon and have been reading up on the correct procedure to do so. Some people have referenced copying files via FTP. If I am able to directly navigate to my files on the server, can’t I just copy them “the old fashioned way” rather than having to use an FTP client? Just curious if there was a particular reason why FTP might be better or if it really doesn’t make a difference. Thanks!

Absolutely! It’s just that most people using a hosting account do not have that level of root access to their server. :-0)
