Why has this theme no sidebar option per default?

i am not very sure if i got you right.

AFAIK we have a sidebar on the right side.

Do you whish to have a sidebar on both sides?

Hi there, there have been a lot of discussions in here about the missing sidebar in Twenty seventeen.
The content of the blog sidebar does not show on my site. I am not really sure I understand the term blog sidebar, does it mean that it can’t contain ordinary widgets? I use widgets for BuddyPress, and they do not show, like they do in Twenty Sixteen.

answer: Make a child theme and make a new template which contains a sidebar. See single.php as example

answer: If you want to add a sidebar — either the existing one or a new one — to static pages, you’d need to first create a child theme.

In Twenty Seventeen, you’d want to add the call to your sidebar to the page.php file, which is what controls the display of static pages. You don’t need to create a custom template unless you want the option only on certain static pages, and not all. If you want to be able to choose the sidebar template for certain pages only, then you would need to create a custom template instead of modifying page.php.

Hi Apollo, thank you so much for your research, I appreciate it.
It seems like the sidebar option for some reason is not as straight forward in Twenty seventeen as in other themes.
