• Hey all I am new to website building, I made an account with wordpress.com and paid for a premium plan. Soonafter I realised even after paying for Premium plan/domain name I was unable to download any plugins without the business plan (which is quite a bump in price).

Upon some research I figured it would be best to change to self hosted website/www.ads-software.com

I completed this procedure and downloaded www.ads-software.com through Bluehost, after completing everything and getting login details and working through Bluehost, i realised when logging in, I still log in through WordPress.com

Bluehost sent me this URL to log in https://www.(mywebsite).com/wp-admin however when I go onto this it automatically redirects me to: https://(mywebsite).wordpress.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Ftaarelyrics.wordpress.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

The website still claims to be powered by wordpress.com and I am still unable to download basic plugins even after paying money for the premium plan.

Apologies for the long post I hope you can help.

  • If you imported the database from your wordpress.com website you may need to do a find/replace on the database to change out instance of that url to your new url. I would contact the Bluehost techs and explain your issue – see if they can run a find / replace on the database for you. Otherwise, if you know a dev you can have them install Database Search and Resplace and remove it afterward. Messing with the database can be a dangerous thing to do, so make sure you take the proper backups necessary to restore should something go astray.

I think your first plan of action is to contact Bluehost and see what they suggest. If they say they can’t help you and you’re not comfortable doing a database find/replace you should contact a local developer.

If you purchased the domain at WordPress.com you need to point your nameservers on the domain to bluehost.
