Hi: I am using Google Adsense on my site. Based on the WP documentation, I got the impression I needed a plug-in to get the Adsense to work. Google’s Adsense site also indicates that plug-ins may be required for WordPress self-hosted sites.
However, I have added the Adsense code to my site and it appears to work just fine. The ads appear, and when the links are clicked they appear to navigate correctly. (I added a general <script type=”text/javascript”></script> statement between the <head></head> tags in my header.php template.)
Is there reason I need to use a plug-in that may not be apparent from a visual review of the site? E.g. that I won’t get credit for clicks or something?

  • You don’t need a plug-in to use Adsense. You can use Google’s code just fine. However using a plug-in makes it easier to place different ad types in various places in your blog.
