Suddenly my website is showing a snowfall decoration and I don’t want it, and did not turn it on.

A look at the source code of the page shows that there is a script running from Jetpack called Holiday Snow/snowstorm.js, but for the life of me I cannot find any settings in my Jetpack settings regarding snow.

How do I turn this off?

I am not hosting on WordPress.com btw, this is a self-hosted WordPress site.

  • Log in to WordPress admin and navigate to Settings > General and scroll all the way down. You will see a tick box for Show falling snow on my blog until January 4th. Untick the box and click save to remove it.

    It is not in Settings>General.

You go to the portion for Customization (Appearances > Customize > Theme Options > Theme General Options)

within this access point, there is a tick box for “Snow effect on/off , Reload to view effect” Make sure the box is unticked. If it is chosen (ticked with checkmark), then the snow effect will be playing on every page of the website.

If you unmark the checkbox – it will remove the falling snow effect.

I had an issue with my website (probably because I had not updated the wordpress system to the latest updated version) – and had to contact support of my host to enlist “premium wordpress support” to take care of the glitch. The website was not showing up on live – only the error message of the glitch from the php files.

and when my site was fixed – the snow was there…had to search around for how to access to remove it. Found this message – but the way to turn it off (or on, if you want it) – is not thru the ‘settings>general’ point…but rather thru the Cusomtizer option which will take you to the next steps as I’ve listed above.

Hope this will help someone else having similar problem in the future.
