I’ve been trying to get a learning management system up and running on my site and I’ve just noticed that my user-name constantly defaults to Mahangu Weerasinghe.

I can change it and save it – but then it reverts to his name. None of the display information is incorrect.

    What is going on?

    Thanks,
    Beth

Hm, where exactly are you seeing that? At Users -> Your Profile in your blog’s Dashboard? Here at www.ads-software.com?

    Hi James,

It’s in my admin user profile in the site’s dashboard.

I’m now unable to log into my site and am on hold with my hosting company. My password resets aren’t coming to my email.

Wondered if this was already a known symptom of some specific problem.

    Thanks,
    Beth

That’s not a problem I know of, it’s very specific. I do know that Mahangu Weerasinghe is a Happiness Engineer (customer service) at Automattic.

Is it one of your Jetpack-powered sites?

Try changing your password directly in the database following the guide at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_Password#Through_phpMyAdmin

You’ll find phpMyAdmin in your hosting account’s control panel.

I had tech support do that – and when I try to change Mahangu Weerashinge back to my name, my password gets changed and I can’t log back in.

    I don’t have JetPack.

    Argh…

Can you take a screenshot of where you see that?

Upload it via Media -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard, then share the image file’s URL here so we can see what’s going on.

    I’m very puzzled.

Also, was this blog ever once a blog at WordPress.com? Perhaps you exported/imported into a new www.ads-software.com blog some time in the past, or paid for a Guided Transfer?

And a third question, are you using Sensei from WooThemes? https://www.woothemes.com/products/sensei/

Mahangu contributed a fair amount to that, and there could be a bug in there causing this.

I imported the blog from another of my sites – and all of the usernames are mine. This is a relatively recent switch – and it’s combined with a password change every time I try to update my user profile.

It’s odd, confusing and very frustrating.

    Ack!

Ok, would you please share the requested screenshot of the problem, and let us know if you’re using Sensei from WooThemes?

Also, was the import from a site hosted at WordPress.com?

Sensei is my learning management platform! It was updated today. Thanks – I’ll head over to WooCommerce and see what’s going on.

Ah-ha, yes please check with them, it’s probably a bug. ??

It’s an issue with Chrome – it’s fine in other browsers now.

Thanks for your help in troubleshooting.

That’s very odd. Definitely let WooThemes know.

My guess is, you might have imported some of the plugin’s demo data which had Mahangu as an author (since he contributed to the plugin), and there could be a bug between the plugin and Chrome that’s causing further difficulty.

    Thanks James,

They don’t have a comment thread, so I submitted a ticket.
