When I’m in the background tab I upload the file I want for the background image I click “save changes” and when I preview the site absolutely nothing has changed! I’ve cleared the brower’s cache and still nothing. I’ve gone back into the background tab and the upload field is empty. I really don’t understand what is going on but if I don’t get this resolved soon I’ll have to find another way to create my website!

Here is the link: https://www.rightteaching.ca/ The site hasn’t been published and the problem seems to be more with the design software than the site itself. If you did get it to display it’s only going to show an unmodified theme, hence the problem…

It’s normal behavior for the upload field to be empty when you return to it. There should also be a preview of your uploaded image above it, if the upload was successful.

I just tested a custom background image with the same theme that you are using (SmartOne Theme) on WP 3.1.1, and it worked perfectly.

[edit] check your /wp-content/uploads directory to see if the image you uploaded actually made it there.

The only place I found a folder called /wp-content/ is on the webhost server. If this is the same folder you’re referring to then there is no uploads within wp-content.

ok, in case that is the correct place, I created a folder called uploads in wp-content and uploaded the file to the host’s server. I went in and tried to change the image and it did not work.

I apologize to everyone. It was not a problem with the site or the software. It was the problem of inexperience and frustration on my part. I was browsing for the file and saving the changes but I didn’t press the “upload” button beside “browse.” Thank you all for your help.

    Glad you got it working!

    Hi,
I’m having exactly this problem. In the theme I’m using I have an upload button, which turns to a choose file but then when it saves it does nothing.

It isn’t uploading to the ‘uploads’ file, and if I do it manually it still doesn’t know how to refer to it.

A bit stuck – any help would be appreciated.
