Why is the Sync needed?

  • Why is the Sync needed to see the images in the folders shown – they are clearly in the file system on the server. What exactly is the Sync doing?

    The media library is a database of files that have been imported into the WordPress. Images on the file server do not show up in the media library until they are processed which generates thumbnail images and adds records to the WordPress database. The sync function will scan a folder to find any files not already in the media library and import them.
