• Please my name is william and i started using wordpress this year and i have so far designed quiet nice websites by using themes. My major problem i encounter with most themes are that, the home page only displays the header or banner (well i don’t know how you’ll describe it).

    Please my question is, how can i make a theme with the header only on homepage show on all pages, post etc on my website? Some one should kindly address this problem for me. thank you

  • Depends on the theme you are using, but in general, you would likely need to create a child theme and customize the header.php file.

    please post a link to illustrate the problem.

    does that also happen for example with the Twenty Eleven theme?

    are you using relative urls for the header image?

    Alchymth and Volunteer moderator: thank you for your suggestions, God bless you.

    @Alchymth, i am happy you mentioned Twenty Eleven theme, with that theme you realize the header picture appears on all the pages and post, etc but in most other themes it doesn’t appear to be so, i want to know how i can make any theme i find online have the header image or slideshow appear in all pages just like Twenty Eleven theme.

    @wpyogi: thank you for the link to the childtheme tutorial. Please can you help me with any video online where i can learn how to create a childtheme from an existing theme i find online.

    I really need to do it because in my country when you develop a website for someone and the header image or slideshow doesn’t appear in all pages and post they don’t like it.

    Try looking in https://wordpress.tv/

    please post a link to your site to illustrate the issue;
    or post some names of themes with the problem.

    generally, this might be caused by using relative image paths instead of absolute image paths;
    for instance try using a suitable of the `bloginfo()’ functions to build the image path; https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Function_Reference/bloginfo (depending on the location where the image is saved)

    Or it could be that these themes are specifically designed to show a header/banner image on the front page only. I’m actually working on such a theme right now.

    @esmi: i think so, they only display the banner on home page. Example of what i mean is here: https://demo.woothemes.com/deliciousmagazine/

    @alchymyth: The theme (see link above) has a nice slideshow on the home page but when you click on “about us” the banner slideshow disappears. how can i make the banner appear throughout the pages/post if am using a similar theme like that.

    i hope i have made myself clear this time. thank you all for your suggestion

    please contact woothemes for support with your question about their theme;

    commercial themes are not supported by this forum; https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome#Commercial_Products

    slideshows are often features for the home page only; imho, this has nothing to do with your original problem with headers only appearing on the front page.

    @alchymyth: thank you for your continuous reply. Please i only posted the link to demonstrate how some of the themes only display headers only on front page and disappear on other pages/post. forget about the slideshow. i hope you now understand me. So please if i get a theme with the header (just image) only on front page, how can i make it appear on other pages/post.

    thank you

    please don’t post any more examples.

    if i get a theme with the header (just image) only on front page, how can i make it appear on other pages/post

    no more ‘if’ –

    choose a theme, and then, to get support, please post the exact name and download link of the theme where you have the problem with, and please post a link to your site using that theme.
