    Hi,

I found dozens of files like this in my wp-content/languages/plugins directory.

Would anyone one have an idea why these are generated and by what? Which one is the one to keep (ther rest are obviously unnecessary, right?)

(There is only one PO and one MO woocommerce-en_AU file, as they should be. It′s just the json files that are multiplying for some reason…)

I am not running any WPML or similar language plugins.

Hi @prwordpressorg. Here’s a similar forum thread that contains a detailed explanation of what’s going on: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/multiple-json-translation-files-2/

In short, while .mo files contain translations for PHP code, the .json files contain translations for JavaScript code. These have nothing to do with language plugins.

As for deleting the files, quoted from that other forum thread:

You can safely delete translation files you don’t need. But I guess that new translation files will be fetched automatically for installed plugins and themes and for all languages that have been activated on your site. From the file names you show here, I can see ca (Catalonian) and es_ES (European Spanish).

    I hope that helps.
