    What’s the issue?

I don’t really care for it either (I don’t dislike it, it’s just not for me, and that’s okay!), however the default theme is not meant to be a one-size-fits-all theme. It’s meant to show you what themes CAN do, and for some, inspire you to make your own. For others, inspire you to find the right one ??

It would also be good if the previous default themes continued to receive support. Because they are the default people use them in great numbers. There would seem to be the implication that that the provided default them would continue to get support. Just because the default changes doesn’t mean I want to change the look and feel of my blog. I started with 2010 and would like to stay with that. But it is not receiving support and I’ve been told not to expect it to continue to be supported by future WP releases.

Some default themes get more fixes than others. 2010 was supported for a couple years, and then moved on.

The last update was 5 months ago: https://themes.trac.www.ads-software.com/log/twentyten/

At a certain point, it’ll probably be removed from the repository. But it’s still within the normal realm of teheme support for any theme, default or not ??

From what I’ve read in the support forum the five month old update of 2010 is filled with problems.

I’m proposing that when WP designates a theme as default that a commitment to compatibility maintenance be made because a lot of users are using those default themes. Forcing them to change to a new theme through obsolescing the old default themes creates problems. Change merely for change’s sake is not good.
