I’ve read some articles including one on icontrolwp site in favour of option of renaming the wp-login.php file. But I could not understand why? If my site is open to registration and I provide a link for login, what is point of trying to hide it? Enyone can see the new name in the URL by clicking on the link for login page.

    Am I missing somefhing here?

There’s no reason to rename your WP login if you’re making the URL public. If it doesn’t interfere with your site, I would rename it anyway. It means that most unintelligent bots will just try your wp-login.php and fail instantly.

Thank you very much Paul. Your simple and short answer is more explanatory than many of the lengthy articles on it.

Going by your advise I tried to rename wp-login.php but could not because this feature is not availabe for a multisite network. Any time line on when it will be availabe for multisite too?

WPMS is much more complicated, so I don’t have any plans or ETA on it yet, sorry.

Theme My Login works great for that, too. High quality, free plugin.
