• After I registered my site name and started working on it with wordpress there was already all this information on it (eg. pages, posts and comments). I cleared all of it and created my own website but I still seem to be getting comments from people on posts that don’t really exist. For example I have several posts that simply say “work in progress” and yet I’m getting responses on them. Can anyone explain that…?

  • Well, spammers look for opportunities to comment anywhere and everywhere to set their links/backlinks. People use spider/robot-software to find entry forms and enter their message without reading or being interested in what’s in the post. Most of the times those kind of comments aren’t saying a lot except “nice post” and maybe a compliment about how good you write….
If there is nothing to comment, deactivate comments (general in Settings/Discussion or for the post) and activate a spam filter like akismet or antispam-bee.
The default installation of WordPress comes with a post and comment and a sample page.
