widen the content and sidebar area

I’m facing a problem and I’d like to know if anyone can help with that.
there is , I want to expend my content and sidbar, please check https://imgur.com/a/G4nnMaA .
I change the css

    margin: 0 auto;
    padding: 0 15px;
    width: auto;
    max-width: 1170px;
}

max-width from 1170 to 1480 or bigger
However there’s no change at all
Did I edit the wrong code or wrong place?
