Widget areas not defined- brand new installation

  • I just finished uploading a new installation of WP 3.4.2 and both Twenty-ten and twenty-eleven both say

    “No Sidebars Defined

    The theme you are currently using isn’t widget-aware, meaning that it has no sidebars that you are able to change. For information on making your theme widget-aware, please follow these instructions.”

    why is this… functions php not running or something?

    Obviously both have sidebar widget areas in the themes….

    Help?
