• Since 4.4, I can’t use most of my widgets. If I publish a widget, a different widget from somewhere else appears in its place. I’m using Rockettheme Lumiere as my theme, so Gantry is integral to it. I do have a lot of plugins, but I deactivated them all and tested it on Twenty Fifteen, and the issue still exists.

It’s actually getting worse. At first, it only happened on text widgets. Now it’s happening on Gantry menus, custom menus, Enhanced text widget and just about everything really.

I had some support advice about it, which was to go to options.php and change a number from 1 to 0 in the settings there. I did that, but it didn’t work. Now, if I try to visit options.php, I get a 404.

It’s gantry related, but I need gantry to run my theme, so I’d really love a fix for this if there is one.

    Hi,

I’m sorry for your Gantry issues. It’s very hard for us to fix this as there are no steps to replicate this issue and we cannot replicate it on our locals to debug it.

So you tried the trick with options.php ? Changing the field value from 0 > 1 only initialises once script inside of Gantry that tries to fix widgets appearing in wrong overrides. It shouldn’t have any affect on the admin parts including the mentioned 404 page.

Cna you please try again accessing the wp-admin/options.php page ?

    Thank you!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Yes, I think it might have been you actually, or someone also called Gantry who told me to change the 1 to a 0 for gantry_bugfix_WGANTRYFW_5 in options.php

I realised that I was missing the wp-admin part of the URL for that the second time around btw, so options.php is working, and I changed the 1 to a 0 again for gantry_bugfix_WGANTRYFW_5 just now. However, looking at my menus, it hasn’t worked. There are menus appearing on pages that they were never placed on.

I’ve disabled the theme and all the plugins, and it’s only Gantry that this is coming from. After some research, I found that it was an issue on Rockettheme/wordpress templates as far back as 4 years ago, 3 years ago and 2 years ago, but I couldn’t find a fix for it. I think there was one though because everyone installed the new version of Gantry and they were working again by the looks of the forums. So maybe it’s a wordpress 4.4 thing?

However, I do take into account that I have a massive website with too much code all over the place and too many plugins and just a whole heap of little bombs in it waiting to go off, which I’m sure doesn’t help. Although, this happened after updating to WordPress 4.4 and my site was working fine before that. Also, it happens when there are no plugins but gantry and I use Twenty Fifteen.

What I’m doing right now is a clean install, trying to figure out how the move all my users and comments and products and pages etc. across to a dev site, and starting from scratch with a different theme.

Sixteen hours yesterday of swearing because I couldn’t duplicate the site due to some kind of homepage nightmare redirection loop means I’ve gotta start from scratch, but I’d like to at least salvage my customers from the apocalypse. I don’t mind having a different theme. I just don’t want to recode and rewrite a million pages, which is looking like the only option. And I have active users on my site 24/7, so they’re not happy right now with the menu circus.

A simple fix would be awesome, but I suspect there isn’t one.

    Hi,

One more time sorry for the issue.

Looks like there was a bug caused by a WP 4.4 which caused all of the new widgets placed in the overrides to have wrong id’s and thus loading in wrong places. Would you be so kind and help us test tomorrow a Gantry framework snapshot to see if it’s going to fix your site before we push it to the WP.org repo ?

    Thanks,
    Jakub

I’m happy to help you test it today if you want, sure. Just let me know what you want me to do. Where should I take a snapshot?

    (@gantry)

    Hi,

PLEASE MAKE A DATABASE BACKUP IN CASE IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

When you copy/install this snapshot upon first front end refresh, Gantry will clear all of it’s caches to match the new baset64 encode method and will execute Widget Fixing script. Some widgets that have bad data might disappear and you might need to place them back again. Rest should be fixed just fine.

Please report if it’s working fine so we could make it public.

Thank you and one more time sorry for the issue.
