    Hi there,

I’m aware that other users are having issues with the Google Calendar widget, following the recent changes with required API keys etc.

I have added an API key, but no events are showing in the grid widget on my site (here, on the left). The events appear in the calendar itself, but not in the widget.

I also updated the ID for the feed that shows in this widget, as I noticed it had changed slightly – perhaps this has triggered something?

I’d be grateful for your help!

  • I am experiencing the same problem,
I just checked yours, it appears to be ok.
What did you do to get it going?

    Hi there,

Unfortunately, it isn’t! I’m referring to the monthly calendar grid (the second item in the left widget sidebar). The grid itself is showing, but appears to be ‘blank’ with none of our events included. Sorry to hear you’re having a similar problem, though.

It’s a bit weird since there weren’t any particular code changes and certainly not in widget component. The latest update was mostly done to invite users to update the API key and to warn about the upcoming release (3.0.0) will be very different, so have backups first or try the beta here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/simple-calendar-30-beta-now-available?replies=17

I think something might be cached, try moving the widget or recreating it to see if something changes. Also please review its settings and those of the corresponding feed(s). (notice that one of the changes 3.0 will bring is that widget will be rather simplified: you just indicate which calendar you want to display and that’s it, no confusing/duplicate options between the widget and the post where you edit the feed, the calendar id etc. If you want to mix different calendars together you will still able to do it from the calendar settings panel, which is also improved).

Hi Fulvio, thank you so much for your reply. That is a bit weird!

I tried recreating the widget with the same conditions but experienced the same problem.

However, I think I may have the opposite problem to mmacoustic here! I DID change the Calendar ID for the feed at the same time I added the API key, as I noticed my ID has also changed to be just the email address. This is where the problem started.

there was no notice from Google about this unfortunately…

seems they have redesigned a bit the Google Console site and probably had changed a few things under the hood that affect some of their APIs

so after correcting the calendar ID and the API key did it solve the problem?

    Hi Fulvio,

No, not at all – changing the API and ID is what started the problem, unfortunately. I made these changes because an error message appeared above the widget, claiming that an API key was needed.

    Hi,

I still need to resolve issue, with no events showing on the Google Calendar grid widget. Do you have any further advice?

    Hi

not really because I’m unable to reproduce the issue – apart from suggesting to check for its setting or creating a new one anew to match with a calendar feed, I’m a bit out of ideas.

there’s a new version of the plugin coming out soon https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/simple-calendar-30-beta-now-available?replies=24 later today will probably issue the 2nd and final beta for it – it brings quite a lot of new things, among which a much simplified widget and better calendar management admin

    Hi Fulvio,

Thank you. It turns out you’re absolutely right – after about the fifteenth time of checking and double-checking the settings, it’s my fault after all – it has been feeding from the wrong place since I changed the ID. It’s now corrected and working fine.

Thank you very much for all your help, and for the information about the update.
