    Hello:
I am using a very slightly modified TwentyThirteeen theme.

When using The NextGen Widget to show a static image in the sidebar, the image does not appear. Instead, a very, very small box below the title of the widget is shown. When the selector arrow is hovered over the small square a red circle with a diagonal line inside appears with a textbox showing the correct name of the image. Clicking on the small square, the image opens in a separate window.

I would like to have the static image appear in the widget by default, as per the NextGen Widget instruction videos.

My current settings when using NextGen widget:

    Manage with Live Preview
    Widgets
    Secondary Widget Area
Add a Widget – NextGen widget
    Show: 1
    Recently Added – On
    Enable EI8 webslices – On
    Width x Height: 100 x 75
    Select: “Only which are listed”
    Gallery ID: 44

Thanks for any help , in advance.
    Larry

@ldp-154 – If you save the options and view the widget area from a front-facing view (such as what a visitor to the site might see) does the widget work as expected?

Otherwise, there may be some sort of conflict happening or the modifications to the Twenty Thirteen theme are creating a problem. Have you tried deactivating all of your plugins, clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN plugin?

If this fixes the problem then it was likely one of the deactivated plugins that was causing an issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating and in most cases it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the parent WordPress Twenty Thirteen theme and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!

    Cais:

I performed the debug sequences you suggested and now believe it may simply be a past revision of the child theme that is creating the problem, perhaps in the functions.php.
The parent theme worked,as well as,a test site we are developing with TwentySeventeen, with (not all) but similar plugins.

We normally use slideshows of a Gallery, but since we are simply trying to display a Gallery with one image, do Basic SinglePic settings have to be set in any particular way?

    Thanks.

@ldp-154 – The SinglePic shortcode does not need any specific order aside from starting with [singlepic followed by the relevant parameters you want to use. Here are some docs on the display: https://www.imagely.com/docs/singlepic/

If you are using shortcodes in text widgets as this suggests you might even look at using a generated shortcode instead of the SinglePic (although we don’t recommend single image slideshow displays it may work better with the generated shortcode versus the inserted widget).

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
