I just updated my website to 3.9
Actually, I have four websites, and they have all been updated.

Questions:

1. How come only one of the websites shows the new “Widget Landing Page”?

2. Is there a way to delete this or hide it? I tried deleting it from the “Pages”, but it gets added back in within a minute.

Thanks in advance for your help.

• Thanks Weston! I did do a preview to look at all the new templates but didn’t go live – so that’s what messed it up? I see it says 3.9.1 fixes this and that’s good to know for sure. I’ve redone my landing/home page and sidebars and am leaving off a lengthy bio so nothing has to be redone other than drag any cleared widgets. I had code in my Sliding Drawer and some other features that aren’t just a matter of reactivating a widget – that’s why I was panicking. I know you said you all are volunteers (and I”m sure extremely busy) but it would be cool if somehow the customization of the widgets in the Appearance could be saved…you can save that one for a rainy day ?? Thanks again for all your help!

@stek: Yes. Previewing a theme but without going live is exactly what causes this issue.

Does any one know how to solve the problem with the unwanted widget landing page, otherwise than disabling WPPA+? Or do we just have to wait for an upgrade fixing this bug?

Greetings, Hans

Are you sure the unwanted widgets aren’t active in the Widgets section? Make sure the widget isn’t in any sidebar on the right (check the dropdowns) to see.

The only work around I’ve found (which came from Jacob Breetvelt) is creating a custom menu then leaving / moving that page off of it. I tried dumping the page into trash – it came back the next refresh, and on one site began multiplying. (I ended up with four of them in my main nav menu); tried changing it’s status to private; it became visible again. Breetvelt’s comment was ”Nobody wants that, but that is how the wise wp core people have designed it…”

I think this is similar to the changes in 3.9 with image borders and padding that now must have a plugin to give the same functionality that was native before; I’ll be curious if further updates address some of these assumptions made with Smith that obviously haven’t meshed well with the whole WP using universe.

Two of the websites I run experienced similar problems:

? all widgets would disappear
??when adding them back in, they would disappear again
??the widget landing page kept re-appearing for 2-3 days

I have to say that everything seems to be back to normal now, even though I can’t figure out how to alter the width on the blog posts on one of the websites.

The other two websites I run are much smaller. No issue seems to be apparent yet.

I could not find the RESOLUTION to the Widget Landing Page being added by some outside force. Please, tell me, how to STOP it. I keep deleting. Tried the custom menu suggestion – but it comes back anyway.

Please tell me how to stop this page from creating itself on https://www.ptiacademy.com/

Thank you.
