Widget messes with footer

Hi there,

The featured post widget looks exactly what Im looking for. The only thing is, is that when I use it, the footer at the bottom of my site becomes smaller in width. Do you know how this can be fixed? It is the simple catch theme I am using. The white footer shouls take up the full length left to right. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
