Yes this is a known problem. I’m going to be doing a code audit of my plugin soon to see if I can track it down. Thanks.

Is there an ETA for this? I installed it today and it only displays 75% of the time, otherwise it just doesn’t appear at all.

Kinda makes it unusable on a live site, but it’s such an awesome plugin when it works!

Hi @phil, I actually pushed a new version this week that I hoped would make it more stable. The widget is pulling free weather data from a source that I have no control over.

I am looking into providing options for what source of data to pull from, no ETA on that.

Do you have any caching plugins installed? I’m trying to work through a number of ideas that may be making it disappear.

If you ever notice that it is gone, can you view the source of the page and looks for an error message with this line: AWESOME WEATHER ERROR: and then post it in the forums for me?

    Thanks.

I don’t know if this is the same thing, but when my widget doesn’t display I get this message in the view source:

<!– AWESOME WEATHER ERROR: Operation timed out after 5008 milliseconds with 0 bytes received –>

This is happening on my Dev localhost WAMP server. Could it maybe be a setting I need to change somewhere?

    Hi there..
I thought I’d post about this “disappearance act” as well. After reading the above posts about viewing the source when not displaying, (which is most of the time), surely enough I saw this in my code: <!– AWESOME WEATHER ERROR: No weather information available –>
Which leads me to believe that it is this “open weather” source you’re using Hal which does not seem to be very reliable all the times.
For me this has happened in my live site, (pretty sure it’s the same deal in my dev site too). When first installed it I thought it was a setting I need to configure differently, so I tried every possible combo..and with one of them it worked, so I thought I nailed it..but then today it just disappeared off of my sidebar..! Please..help..I love this widget, adding my own background too..maybe change where it pulls its weather data..is this feasible Hal..?
    Thank you..

I have a pro version coming soon that has the ability to use Yahoo! Weather. If it proves to be more reliable, I will take the time to incorporate it in the free plugin as well.

The PRO version is now available with Yahoo! support at the link above.

If you want to give a little bit extra reliability to this plugin you can save it a step and find the City ID manually and put that in the Location field in your Widget Settings. Here are the steps:
