I cannot access the widget option on the appearance menu on my dashboard. I am assuming that an update to the WordPress or one of my plugins may have caused the problem. I am working on a Multisite and prior to this problem was able to access the widget option. All the sites have the widget feature as part of the theme.

I deactivated all of my plugins to see if this would fix the issue but it still persists. After reading the forum I see that other people have had similar problems but I have not found the solution. Please help.

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thanks Esmi for getting back to me so quickly. I will try to do everything you recommend and will advise.

Okay Esmi here goes. I reset the plugins via FTP. That did not resolve the issue. I then went ahead and switched from my current builder child theme to the Twenty Eleven WordPress theme and my widget does appear. One slight problem however I built my site on Acute Builder child theme from Ithemes and that′s the theme I ultimately want to use. What do you recommend I should do next. Keep in mind that up to couple of weeks ago everything was functioning well with the Acute Child theme.

What do you recommend I should do next.

Contact the theme’s developers. If this is a purchased theme, you should have paid for support like this.

Thanks for helping me and for directing me to the right place. Have a wonderful day.

Just had this happen with me. Switched theme to one of the defaults. Corrected it and stayed corrected when activating the theme I was using.
