So, as it says in the title, I can’t do anything on the widgets page, nor switch between the visual and text editor tabs since the automatic upgrade to 4.8.3 on the 31st October. I’ve disabled all plugins and installed Twenty Sixteen, but no improvement. The site normally runs Atahualpa and everything is up to date.

I have other sites running 4.8.3 in the same shared hosting environment and they don’t have the same problem. I’ve fixed it for now by rolling back to 4.8.2 and turning off the automatic updates.

Just for info, I have twice (three times including the first auto update) rolled forward from a working 4.8.2 to 4.8.3 and the problem was repeated.

    Any ideas?

    Have you tried:
Troubleshooting with your browser: Your browser can help you identify JavaScript issues or conflicts and this article can assist you in doing that diagnosis. This could help identify Visual Editor issues as well.
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Seventeen.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
    – If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, try MANUALLY updating. Download WordPress again and unzip it. Access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Please read the Manual Update directions first.

    Hi,

    I have the same problem.

The Chrome browser gives me the following Javascript error: Invalid or unexpected token load-scripts.php:498

    How I fix it?

    Thanks

    Hi,
    I fixed it!!
I deleted and replaced my copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the wordpress download.
(Deactivating plugins and themes didn’t fix it).
    Thanks!!
