Hello Malik,

The [sidemenu] shortcode is used to create a button to open the SideMenu. So you shouldn’t add this button to the SideMenu widget area because the widget area is shown in the SideBar.

You should place the SideMenu shortcode somewhere on your website to allow a user to open the SideMenu.

yes it does. for the 1st step… but then, why can’t I place a search widget _under_ the menu? or better, how would i do this?

Understood.

In that case, use a “Navigation Menu” widget instead and place it above the Search widget.

In “Dashboard – Appearance – Menus”, untick the “SideMenu” menu location and save.

This way your menu will be shown as a widget instead in the location you require.

excellent! as I mentioned, I didn’t immediately remember how I got there, I had that before. the problem here is that the sub dirs (dropdown) are not showing indented.
any thoughts?

sorry to be so insistent. two more things: following your advice to use the nav menu widget, I cannot change the styling of the menu list, which are links. tried all kinds of things with additional css but even trying to force with !important wasn’t convincing enough.
the other thing is, is it possible to take out the scrollbar (but leave the scroll function intact)?

Dropdown menus not indented – This is because you have enabled “Customizer – SideMenu – Enable Dropdown Menus”. If you want to enable dropdown menus and still retain the indentation then you will need to add the following CSS into “Customizer – Additional CSS” …

.sidemenu .sub-menu {
padding-left: 1rem;
}

With regards to the styling of the menu list, please confirm exactly what you are trying to achieve. Please provide example CSS that you are using that isn’t working.

We do not believe that the scrollbar can be hidden but will monitor this thread in case anyone manages to achieve that.

first of all, thank you very much for everything and having the patience to get into my sometimes unprecise questions. I guess we’ll find our way through the customization of the menu items.
conc. the scrollbar, I think it does make sense to think about it because if the list is long, you have two of them side by side (one of the browser and one of the menu) which aesthetically is not the very coolest.
one more thing is about the ‘Set the width of the SideMenu as a percentage of the display width’. we are tapping pretty much in the dark concerning the number % going step by step through the chooser–but the rest is guesswork.

What browser are you using? We aren’t seeing double scrollbars in Safari?

When you say you are tapping in the dark, do you mean you want to see what percent that the slider is actually set to? We can add that if you require.

hello Oliver, you are very kind.

I hope we are talking about the same thing. the double scroll bar is *not* in the sidemenu plugin, he comes into being by both, sidemenu and browser window having one. and when the slider is on the right side, they are side by side.
we test on all machines. however, I haven’t looked at safari yet. I will ask.
here, in design development, we are using windows versions 10 LTSC and home and even a win 7 ESU. we usually look at Firefox and Chrome (last versions, on the 7 firefox 52). I just looked at win ‘edge’, all show the sidebars even when the nav items don’t exceed the height.
conc. the percentage of the slider, I really think I might not be the only one to who a % number would be very helpful because it is really a trial and error game.

and now for something completely opposite… after all the problems I wanted to say that the sidemenu is a very good piece of work. it runs fast and smoothly and it basically does the thing it was made for in an enjoyable way. that there are always things, na well…

btw, I can’t reach you on your website. the ball inside the bubble keeps rolling and rolling.

We have just tested the SideMenu on Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera. We don’t have Edge on our Mac here but will look at that when we next have access to a Windows machine.

In all cases (using https://rushwittwilson.co.uk to test) there was only one scroll bar and it only showed when actually scrolling so I’m afraid we cannot replicate the issue of the double scroll bars. Sorry.

We will let you know as soon as we have added a visual aid to show the percentage width setting of the SideMenu slider.

And thank you for letting us know about the problem with the feedback form, we’ve just run a test which has delivered a message to us so we are hoping that was a temporary glitch.
