Widget space

I am having some trouuble with the widgets in the ground floor 2.1 theme. Once I placed the featured content on the home page all the side bar widgets moved down I would like them to move back up as on the other pages. Also there are some widgets I have on not all pages and on the pages where I don’t want the widgets there is an empty box which I would like to eliminate.
