Hello, I just noticed, that the WPP widget title is not shown in my sidebar any more.

I’m using the WPP widget in my sidebar for a long time without any problems.
Unfortunately I cannot tell when the title disappeared. Maybe since some update?
The setup of the widget is still okay, also the entries in the widget are shown correctly. Only the title is missing. ??

    Do you have any advice?

@hector: Just found your advice in this link: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/both-5-3-4-and-5-3-5-breaking-my-widgets/#post-14640819 and this solved my problem.

But I still would like to know: Is this considered as a final solution? Or do you plan a general update? If yes, I think this additional html code has to be removed?

    Regards, Tooni

    Hi @tooni,

Actually there’s an update ready that fixes this issue ?? I was planning to release it this past weekend but life happened and I just didn’t have the time.

If you want to try it out you can grab a test version I shared with another user here or you can wait until I release it officially via the regular channels (GitHub & the www.ads-software.com plugin repository).

Thank you for answering. Because the html-workaround solves my problem for now, I will wait for the official update.
Thank you for your efforts and for this really great plugin!

You may need to recheck the HTML fields after updating to make sure everything’s in order so keep that in mind (most likely that won’t be necessary though but thought I should mention it anyways just in case).

    Hey @tooni,

WPP version 5.3.6 has been released just now, this should fix the widget title missing issue you reported recently. Please update as soon as you can and let me know if there’s anything else I can help with.

Hi @hector: Thank you for the update. This solved the problem and everything is okay again. ?? The widget title is displayed correctly now (and it doesn’t matter, if the html-workaround is there or not. So I removed this additional setting).

    Best regards, Tooni

I have updated to 5.8.1 version but still facing same issue. The widget title missing and cannot find the way to fix. Anyone can help? Thank you.

If you’re still using the classic WordPress Popular Posts widget @eddiechang please remove it from your sidebar and use the WordPress Popular Posts block instead.

@hector: Oops?! What does that mean? Are you telling us, that the support for classic WPP widget will be stopped? Or that it is already canceled? Are you saying, that we have to use the block version instead?
I really would like to continue using all classic widgets, including WPP. Which is still working without any (known) problems.

The classic WordPress Popular Posts widget doesn’t work that well with the new Widgets screen, @tooni. And there are no plans to make it compatible with the new Widgets screen either because we have a new WPP block that works almost just like the classic widget. That’s why I suggested switching to the block instead ??

If you want / need to keep using the classic WordPress Popular Posts widget with WordPress 5.8 and beyond then you’ll need to install the Classic Widgets plugin.

Okay, thank you. That’s fine. ??
I’m a “classic” WP-user and so I like the classic editor and the classic widget setup. Therefore of course I’m using the corresponding plugins. As long as possible…

In that case the WPP widget will work perfectly fine on your website, @tooni. At least while the Classic Editor and the Classic Widgets plugins are actively maintained by its developers. Hopefully for a long, long time haha.

Hi Hector, I am all the way use “block” instead of classic although I prefer classic, but the issue still remain the same. Finally I need to turn the widget into dropdown only show the title in the dropdown list, when turn back, the widget title still missing. This is an issue for me, as other widget like showing the post and menu has no such problem, only when I add categories, the title is missing. I had tried many time, remove and add back and remove, still cannot solve the issue.

@eddiechang please open a new topic explaining in detail how to reproduce the issue (or, if possible, record a video) so I can help you out.
