Widgets and tags just stopped working

  • Hello,

    I have been having a very odd and very strange problem. I just got done installing a new blog and everything was working fine. I was working on the widget page adding some widgets and everything was great. Well, I went to dinner came back and needed to do some more work to the widgets and I noticed something very odd. The widget control panel in the admin dashboard was no longer work. I could get to the widget page, but it wouldn’t let me select or move any widgets.

    So I decided to check something else out. I checked another blog which is at another domain and it’s having the same problems. The blog I checked last is running the latest version of wordpress. Now, the strange thing is the blog that I noticed the problem on first was running on 2.8.2

    Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on here. Why would they just stop working? Now, I have tried the following:

    Fresh Install
    Deactivated plugins and tried to see if one was causing it
    I tried a new theme
    I tired an updated version of wordpress

    None of this is working. Also the tag section is no longer working as well. If I end a tag in the new post area and hit the button to make it create a new tag nothing happens. What could cause all the widgets to stop working across all of my blogs?

    Any help would be great

  • Have you tried resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    I will try this method and let you know. I have learned that the newest version of firefox and the newest version of wordpress seems to be the problem. I only have this problem in firefox. If I got to Internet Explorer the widgets and the tags work fine.

    I have also tried my friends blog at his house and he is having the same problems. Now, when I tired it with my dads blog which is an older version of wordpress on the newest version of firefox he is NOT having any problems at all.

    This is basically what is happening to me. I just set up 2 different sites on different domains and cannot get the plugins or widgets to work or even appear.

    I am using IE7 and wp 2.8.6

    these are new sites and I installed, uninstalled, and then set up a completely new 2nd site on a different domain.

    I’m totally lost and frustrated.

    Also…please don’t tell me to check some code because I will have no idea what you’re talking about. I have no programmer or code knowledge, but have set up wp sites before without a problem.
