• There have been several postings about problems with the Widgets Area in WP 5.8.
We are now on WP 6.1 and I am still having the same issues. Is there a solution?

I build my WP pages using Co-Blocks. From the moment that blocks could also be used in the Widgets area, I was all in. It created less confusion.

But now, when I go to the Widgets area, a large list of errors show up. And I am aware that the only way to fix this issue is to go back to the Classic editor. The downside of this is that blocks that were edit in ‘customize’ mode, are now displayed in HTML code.
So I find myself toggling between either the ‘customizer’ with handy blocks, and the classic Widget area for other functionality.

Where do I go to get this issue fixed, because it is really annoying and time consuming.

In my humble opinion it is the most confusing part of WordPress to work with the trio of Menus, Sidebar Replacements and Widget area.

I have a very simple theme on my pages (Iconic One Pro) and it support all the latest software, so this can hardly be the problem. If it is, I shudder when I think of having to perform a theme change…

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,
    Nicky

  • Unfortunately, you have not written which errors are displayed there exactly. The last such cases I saw were related to the theme not supporting the new type of widget blocks. Since you are using a commercial theme, it is not possible to help you in this regard. It’s best to contact their support about this: https://themonic.com/support/

    Nevertheless the following tips:
Change the theme to a standard theme. Are the errors still there?
Deactivate all plugins. Are the errors still there?
So you could possibly exclude a component as a cause.
Helpful for this could be the troubleshoot-mode of this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/

I am not sure how to add a screenshot but this is what it says for each of the widgets:

The nav_menu block was affected by errors and may not function properly. Check the developer tools for more details.

So it is pretty generic and I don’t know what to do with it.

I have sent a support call to the person who created our theme. I think I have asked them before and they suggested re-installing the ‘Classic Widget’ plugin.
But that plugin, although it fixes the widget area in the back end, also changes everything I created with the block editor in widget areas into HTML code.

I can manage things for now but I would rather know what the cause it.

When I open the widget area after de-activating the ‘Classic Widget’ plugin, at first the widget area is normal. But after a couple of seconds, all elements start to change into a red bock with the above type of message.

I will check out in my staging site if another theme would not produce this error. That would be a really big disappointment to me, as applying a new theme means a lot of work…. I’d rather not do that if I can help it.
