Widgets disappear when I go to edit them

    After adding three new widget areas to my theme (I’m child theming the Delicate theme), now every time I go to edit the main widget area (right sidebar) that came programmed into the theme, the widgets that were there disappear and I need to create them from scratch again. They show up fine once made, but then if I have to add something they’re not there anymore, which is going to be a problem when I hand the site off to my client. Any ideas?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Got this figured out at WordCamp Boston — my original widgets were named 1 and 2, and mine were given names. When I made all of my widgets numbered instead, they worked correctly.
