• I just updated to 4.0 and am running the Twenty Fourteen theme. Everything seems to be working EXCEPT the widget editor. I cannot add/remove, drag, or edit any widgets using the editor. The widgets page comes up and shows some, but not all, of my widgets. Nothing happens when I click to expand a sidebar or edit a widget. The 4 point cursor comes up when hover my mouse over a widget, but when I try to drag them it just highlights text. So, the widget editing page is entirely unresponsive.

After enabling accessibility mode, I was able to access and edit some widgets, though not Black Studio tinyMCE’s Visual Editor (an important one for me). I’ve disabled all plugins and still cannot add, delete, move, or edit widgets in standard mode.

Please help! My website is https://EspositosIce.net. This is my business page and is important to me! The site is working fine and even though many of my widgets aren’t showing in the editor, they are present and functioning on the website itself. All help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • It is more than likely one of your plugins.

Can you disable all your plugins, refresh your browser and check if your widget area is functioning properly in the admin?

If it’s still not working, try renaming your plugins folder via ftp to plugins-off and check again.

It seems the problem was the Comprehensive Google Map Plugin by Alex Zagniotov. Although I had already disabled all plugins and re-enabled them one by one, I never refreshed my browser in the widgets editor after each plugin. Thanks for the suggestion – my problem has been solved!!! Thanks again! Is there a Google Maps plugin you would recommend?

I also have Widget editing issues after WP 4.0 upgrade. I use Replete/Child theme. When I rename my plugins folder and refresh WP, it displays a top alert that WP works better with bb.. plugins installed. I rename the plugins folder back to plugins and refresh the Widgets editing window and I can now edit my widgets normally, until I go elsewhere. When I return to Widget editing, I’m “locked out” again. This is strange. Hmmm. Should be easy for WP engineers to figure this out. Rename plugins folder, refresh, rename back to plugins, refresh, it works! WT??
