• I have been configuring a whole bunch of widgets on the right sidebar of my site (sixdollarsaday.com). These were all working and looking great, but now all of a sudden I visited my site again, and nothing is appearing in the sidebar except for the archives.

The only thing I can think of that I did in the past 20 minutes in between it working, and not working, is installed two plugins: Google Analyticator, and Statcounter. I have deactivated both to see if that makes a difference, but it does not. My widgets still show up in my dashboard, with their appropriate settings, but do not show up in my actual blog.

    What happened?

    I see two widgets:

I actually have seven: Meta, Recent Posts, Text, Categories, Archives, Search, and another Text.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).

Hmmm, I tried the FTP method you linked to in the documentation, and no change ?? I have re-enabled those two plugins I mentioned above; do you think I should delete them permanently, since disabling them or trying the method above doesn’t seem to do anything? I really need those plugins so I’d like to not do that if I don’t have to…

-try switching to the unedited default theme (twentyeleven) for a moment by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes. The idea is to force WordPress to fall back to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific issue.

Hmm, not sure if I did this right, but when I went to rename the theme (i.e. in my FTP, changed the “scrappy” folder in wp-content/themes to “scrappy.hold” and then visited my site, all I got was a blank page.

Instead, I reverted back to the default theme via my dashboard. Doing this solved some of the problem (now “recent posts” and “categories” widgets appear, but nothing else).

    check in your
    admin – appearance – widgets

that the other widgets that did not appear are in fact active

-Also, try clearing cache in your browser before viewing the updated page. To clear cache in your browser, press clrl+f5 keys simultaneously. Also, try different computer/different browser.

Ah, there we go! You’re right, they were actually inactive when I switched back to the default theme, and reactivating them / clearing the cache fixed it.

So, I guess that must mean it’s a problem with the theme I was using then, right? Does that mean that theme just isn’t compatible with those widgets? Or is there a way to get inside the theme and allow it to display them?
