Widgets not showing in footer

Hi everyone,

I upgraded to WordPress 3.8 yesterday and used a new theme. My old theme had 3 widgets in the footer I used to place extra links, etc. This theme did not have that feature. After spending some time doing research, I managed to add 3 footer widgets to the widgets section. So, next to the sidebar, I have them in place and I can add widgets to them. The problem is, they never show up at the front end of the site. I have no idea what I’m overlooking. I know it’s probably just a simple piece of code I’m missing, but it’s really frustrating me.
