Width of the homepage

  • Hey. I am a beginner in using WordPress, have never before used anything like that and have never created a Homepage beforehand. My task of my company was although, to create a homepage which I did as follows:

    (that’s the only page I have published yet so please don’t wonder).

    The homepage is very simple but I have no real knowledge about something like that.

    My problem is the broadth of the pages. The various pages are to wide and I would like to make them smaller so that it’s not so empty. How can I do that? I have thought about changing the design that way that it looks like this homepage https://www.small-tall.com/ . With that I mean more or less having a nice background picture or just any colour at the left and right site like the grey frame is showing at the homepage above and inside of this frame my homepage with text and so on. How can I do that?
    Or is there a setting where I can change the whole size? At the moment I use the theme “Circumference Light”.

    Someone told me I shall set a maximum width in the .container div that at least the broadth of the page is smaller. This would be the original CSS. .container { max-width: 990px;}. I have changed the pixel and tried to change it but it still doesn’t work.
