• Hello, I just updated wordpres core version from 5.7.5 to 6.0.1 and my widgets section crushed. I got The “custom_html” block was affected by errors and may not function properly. check the developer tools for more details. So I installed the classic widgets plugin which reverted widgets to old classic widgets editor from block editor. Now my problem is gone but plugin description says that it will be maintained and supported until at least 2022. What does it mean? Won’t this plugin be supported after 2022 or later? What about over 1 million websites who use this plugin?

    See screenshots here.
before plugin installation Widget block editor was crushing
Plugin description that says plugin will be supported in 2022

I asked this two weeks ago but still no answer, why??

Hi, halielambert, I’m another Classic Widgets user.

It looks like the GitHub project associated with the plugin hasn’t been updated in a while: https://github.com/WordPress/classic-widgets

What does it mean, did they stop supporting this plugin or isn’t it nessesary to update this plugin? classic widgets plugin has over 1m active installation so it is highly popular, and millions of websites use it.

    Hey @halielambert

I just tested the Classic Editor using version 6.1 with the newest Twenty Twenty-Three theme and everything works as expected. As far as I know, there are no plans to discontinue this plugin.

I believe the reason this has not been updated for a while is that there is no need to do so but I agree that it would be a good idea to do so just to confirm that the plugin is still 100% compatible with the latest version of WordPress.
