I have all my wordpress files in public_html directly.

Would I crash my website if I moved all the files into public_html/Site 1?

I’m asking because I want to make another website on the same server.

So I want to make a public_html/Site 1 and public_html/site 2 for two separate websites.

My question is, will I corrupt my already running site if I move all of its files from public_html into a sub folder in public_html like public_html/www.mydomain.com

  • Yes this can make your site unavailable. I have several websites and they are all in my public_html folder. However each DOMAIN I use is in a sub folder and the magic of the internet makes each domain show up as it should to internet browsers.

My main website is a prestashop install in the public_html folder though and if I mess with them in the wrong way my site goes down. I also use WordPress for 2 other domains and they are located in their own folders within the public_html directory.

To deal with WordPress installs and moving them around you should find most of the answers you need here:
