Will my hosting provider host WordPress?
-
OK, I posted the standard form of words below to my host here in the UK. It’s the recommended form of words from the WordPress site:-
I’m interested in running the open-source WordPress <https://www.ads-software.com/> blogging software and I was wondering if my account supported the following:
* PHP 4.2 or greater
* MySQL 3.23.23 or greater
* The mod_rewrite Apache moduleHere’s what they said:-
Your current hosting package is XXX, which has PHP version 4.3.2. For MySQL, you will have to purchase the service seperate since the hosting pacakge does not have this feature. Our current available MySQL is in version 4.1.18.
Unfortunately, we do not allow mod_rewrite for security reasons as it could severely affect our shared hosting environment.
OK, so it looks like they’re telling me I need to purchase MySQL(whatever that is.) But even if I pay for that as an extra, does the fact that they’ve said they don’t allow mod_rewrite (whatever that is.) mean hosting WordPress on my own host is a non – starter?
