will not download updates or plugins

  • I have a fresh install of wordpress on my local server. I have gone through all suggested directory and file permissions. But when I try to add a plugin like Google Analytics I’ll click the Install Now button. It will download the plugin, supposedly. create the directories, but always fails when creating the files on the server?I had an older version of WordPress on and tried to run the update from the admin. This is the same issue with the updates.

  • Maybe you haven’t permissions from hosting provider to add/delete files to server without FTP. Try to download .zip of plugin, extract it, copy plugin folder to your “plugins” folder on server and then see if you can see it there. If it’s there, just activate it.

    It’s my personal server, so I am the admin.

    Like I said, I have set all permissions to what I have read in the documentations. I’ve tried 750, 755, 766 and 777. It will write the directories but not any of the files? Apache user is wwwrun, group is www. Still gets stuck writing the files
