    do a search for taipei
    order the product
    enter fake data
and it takes you straight to screen that tells you the payment processing was declined.
Never shows form to enter credit card info.. so how is it declining payment.

I was already on with stripe thinking it was an error in the setup and api.. but that was done correctly.

    please help

    Hey @ipatrona,

Your site is not secured using an SSL certificate. This is a requirement of using the plugin to ensure the security of your customers billing information.

If you need help setting up an SSL certificate, you’ll want to contact your hosting company as they can assist you with setting one up.

    Phil,

Is that the same for paypal, I wonder?

Don’t Stripe and other payment processors have their own SSL, my site is not the one actually collecting the data.
I don’t understand why it is required when the payment is done through a third party.

    Thanks,
    Liz

    Hey Liz,

No PayPal does not require you to use an SSL certificate, as the checkout process does not take place on your website. Instead customers are forwarded to PayPal’s website, where they make the purchase and then are forwarded back to your site.

With Stripe (and most of our other payment gateway plugins), your customers do not leave your site to make the payment.

All payment gateway companies will have their sites secured with an SSL certificate, but that only applies to THEIR site. That does not make your site secure. As an SSL certificate is something that is unique to the site that it is installed on.

Since the credit card information is posted directly to Stripe on a secured hosted form, if you didn’t have an SSL certificate on your site your customers would see a warning that some of the page content is unsecured. As you can imagine warnings on a checkout page regarding security are usually bad for business. As well, to pass PCI compliance you would require an SSL certificate on your site.

For these reasons and the fact that many customers will not purchase from un-secured sites, an SSL certificate is a requirement to use the plugin.
