• the title says it. This plugin will overwrite existing Alt Text values. This is bad if you’ve already added any Alt Text values yourself in the past, those will be lost and overwritten with the file name… probably with a non human friendly file name.

If they update this later to check for existing values and don’t overwrite those then I would recommend giving it another try.

PS: this goes for ALL title, alt text, description, and caption. All of these will be overwritten even if you already have it set to something.

Hello Joseph, sorry for not reverting back sooner, I was out of office for a week.

My name is Arun. I am the sole “they” behind the plugin ??

This plugin will overwrite existing Alt Text values

This is as expected and is clearly mentioned in the plugin description:

Please remember to take a database backup before running the bulk updater. The bulk updater updates ALL attributes for existing images in the Media Library and ignores the settings set for NEW uploads.

There is a warning pop-up right before you run the bulk updater that says the same thing. And it’s also mentioned in the Bulk Updater page. Seems like you missed all three of these.

If they update this later to check for existing values and don’t overwrite those then I would recommend giving it another try.

Preserving existing attributes is available in the pro versionhttps://imageattributespro.com/preserve-existing-image-attributes/

I hope you had a database backup handy. It’s recommended to take a full backup before you do anything in bulk. The bulk updater pop-up notice says this too btw.

I am sorry for the frustration caused. Open to suggestions on how I can make this even better for future users.

Thank you for giving my product a go. I hope to see you back again.

    Sending love and peace ?

An update, I have updated the warning text and made it bolder in the product description. That should help future users from the same issue I hope.

    Same frustration as @nighthawk.

    Hello @susgeek

Sorry to hear that. Let me see what I can do to improve the messaging further. Hope you had a database backup to revert back.

I did have a backup. Thanks.
