I activated the default 2014 theme and created my website https://biomeonboardawareness.com/ using the dashboard options only. For ex: header, sidebars, pinterest image button, facebook plugin added for a follow button, posts, pages, images, and jetpack: carousel, comment, custom content types, sharing, tiled galleries, stats, subscriptions, and contact page… Will these changes be deleted with the now requested 2014 Theme upgrade from 1.1 to 1.2?

Totally confused what “customizations” is referring to in the warning to do a child theme before the upgrade and if the changes made via the dashboard that created my website in the first place, are considered to be such “customizations” Thanks for your help.

  • The settings that you made via dashboard will not be affected if you update WordPress themes. But if you have made any changes in the actual theme files of the 2014 theme then those changes are most likely to be affected.

Thanks Rushang. One more question… I watched a youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEPjdEGIZxY on updating a WP theme and prior to doing so, they deactivated all the plugins “just as a precaution.” After the theme was updated, they reactivated all the plugins. Is such necessary or is that just overly cautious?
    I sincerely appreciate your insight,
    Patty

Well I never faced any problem while updating WordPress core with Active plugins.

I guess WordPress core takes care of it by itself. But still if you wish to be extra cautious you can do that. Atmost all you will be losing by doing that is a couple of minutes or so! ??

Thanks so much again Rushang! I updated 2014 theme this morning (leaving plugins active) with no problems. I truly appreciate your insights!

    Have a great day! Patty

    Hi Rushang!
Then why 2014 Theme is losing header images that have been added via the Dashboard when I for example activate the Child theme and go back to the main Theme and activate 2014 Theme.

Child themes are considered different themes by WordPress, so you will have to reassign things like custom header images, widgets, and navigation menus. Your content (blog posts, static pages, uploaded media, etc.) won’t be changed, though.

Yes, but I am asking why 2014 Theme is losing (forgetting) header images that are added via dashboard if Main Theme is only deactivated and activated back?

I’m sorry, I completely misinterpreted your question.

Do you receive any errors when you add your header image to Twenty Fourteen? How are you adding the header image?

For the first time I was using:
    Dashboard, Appearance, Header
    and import images from computer.
When images are disappeared from header I have used:
    Dashboard, Appearance, Customize, Header Image
    and add images from Media.

@mpuska You’d really be better of with your own topic rather than taking over someone elses… ??

In try deactivating all of your plugins, clear your browsers cache and cookies and see if you can reproduce the problem again. Also a link to your site help (in your own topic…)

    Thanks and sorry ??
