    Hi,
I was of the impression that when I set the options to monitor changes to posts, pages etc, if I changed the WP permalinks structure (from day/post-name to /post-name, for example), the plugin would be able to detect this.

Does it mean it only monitors when a page link is manually changed?

I changed my permalink structure after settink
    Monitor changes to posts
    Monitor changes to pages
    Monitor changes to trash

and leaving URL Monitor Changes: at Redirection.

However, when I tried using the old link to access a post I get a 404.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Redirection does not monitor permalink changes

Thanks John. That would be a great feature though, don’t you think?

It would, and there is an outstanding feature request here:

    https://github.com/johngodley/redirection/issues/476

    It’s… not simple though!

Ah. Is some sort of meta data saved when permalinks are changed? Maybe monitor change there if that is so. I’m just taking a stab in the dark air. Or have a global option that always use what’s stored for permalinks with, maybe, an exception for specifically set links–which might all change with the new permalinks anyway.

Programming is so easy when one doesn’t know much. lolol.

    Regards.

Yep, detecting permalink changes isn’t a problem, it’s more the everything-else that isn’t straight forward. It’s on the feature request list so should make it into a future release.
